First Recital

Makayla had her first recital. It was her first time on stage. Naturally, my little ham loved it.
It was the culmination of the creative movement class she took at the Beverly Art Center. She and her six classmates we dressed in light pink tights, pink shoes, and pink leotards with a white tulle tutu underneath. So cute! She looked every inch the miniature ballerina. She enjoyed performing and being on stage and waved to everyone – even after her portion of the performance had begun. She really made the audience laugh! She can’t wait to do it again!
Now on to soccer!

Sanibel 2009

Sean and Makayla called to say good night. Makayla was very upset. She had a veeerrryyyy long day and was soooooo overtired and she had complaints. Apparently, they were mistreating her and forcing her to sleep against her will, and she missed her mommy (really, it was heartbreaking). I think a good night sleep will solve a lot of those issues. She did tell me: “It’s soooo beautiful here.” I know baby, I know.

Today, Makayla left for her 3rd ever trip to Sanibel Island Florida! She was so excited, she leaped out of bed and ran to the back bedroom squeling, “Auntie Momo, Aunt Wabecca wake up! It’s vacation! The airplane is waiting!” I could barely dress her because she kept running off to update Maureen and Rebecca. She really could not wait to go! Then, according to Aunite Momo, her first thought upon entering the condo” “It’s fwiggin’ hot in here.”

I denied Makayla more tape, since she went through three rolls in a week. Now she is obsessed with the stapler. I have never seen office supplies make someone so happy. And I work in an office where we have to bring our own.

Guess who wants to be an Elympic

We’ve been watching the Olympics all this week and Makayla has been captivated by the gymnasts and divers and has announced that “when I grow up I want to be an Elympic!” She said she wants “to be a gymnastics” and that they are a lot like acrobats. Were not entirely sure where she learned the word acrobat but we’re delighted nonetheless that she made the connection. We told her that she will probably be too big she grows up to be a gymnast since mommy is 5’9″ and daddy 6 feet tall so decided she would be a diver. As a result of that decision she wants to the place with the diving board. When we took her there she jumped off the diving board in to the deep (twelve feet) all by herself and even swam back to the top. She did this about 8 times. It’s extraordinary to see her interest in classic athletics developing at such an early age we just hope she retains it. We’re certainly going to do what we can to encourage and support any area she wants to explor…even gymnastics!

So it has been a long time since I’ve posted anything on this site. It’s been a turbulent couple of years since my mom passed away. It’s my hope that we both start posting on here more often. We will be back posting for the sake of chronological consistency. We also have a new house. When we travel back in time there will be more details regarding that little tidbit!

A day late but I was concentrating on spending time with her and Mindy on our little girls special day. We had TWO birthday parties for her over the weekend. My family came first on Saturday and I think it was evident that we all missed having my mom there. Makayla really enjoyed seeing Nik, Joe and Billy. Sunday was Mindy’s mom’s family and yet more fun was had. We head to Barrington this weekend to celebrate with Papa John and crew.

Laughing in the…well she’s ready for rain

Poor little Kayley twisted her ankle today going down the slide. It was so sad, she cried really hard and looked confused like she had no idea what had happened. The sight of a toddler limping is just too sad. I can hear my mom now, though, “only someone in our family would twist their ankle going down a slide!” It was the shoes really. They are heavy with thick rubber heels and caught on the way down. We took her out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant with outdoor dining to keep her sitting for awhile and she enjoyed the experience a great deal. She looked up and saw the moon and when the clouds passed over it said “by-bye moon.” We got her home, after stopping at the grocery store, and she could walk better but nowhere near normal. No Jungle Gym for her this week.
